Is a Renogy Solar Kit Cheaper Than Buying the Same Parts Separately?

Published · By the SolarPanelX editors · Prices and specs as of that date, from the pages under Sources

Summary

Renogy's 200W 12V Essential Solar Panel Kit sells for $289.99, and the closest individual parts from the same store add up to $436.69 (counting one tray cable), about $147 more. The standalone panel and charge controller now sold, though, are not the same versions described on the kit page.

The kit also includes a Cable Entry Housing, which we could not price on its own and left out of the total. The kit page lists one tray cable in its description and three in its package table. Counting three brings the separate-parts total to $500.19, about $210 over the kit. The Y branch connectors showed as sold out.

Where the parts differ

The standalone 100 W panel is now part of Renogy's N-Type line: 22.79 V open-circuit, 19.97 V at maximum power, 5.31 A short-circuit, 865 × 578 × 30 mm, 5.9 kg. The kit page's spec table gives 24.3 V, 20.4 V, and 5.21 A instead. The kit page also states cell efficiency three ways, 25% in the menu, 22% in the top bullet, and 21% in the features section.

Both controller listings agree on 400 W at 12 V and a 30 A rated charge current, but the kit page caps PV input at 25 V while the standalone Adventurer Li page says 50 V.

A 400 W kit you configure

The store's 400W 12V Starter Solar Panel Kit shows "From $394.99" and is built from options. Its contents list offers four 100 W panels, two 24 V 200 W panels, or two 200 W flexible panels, a Rover 40A MPPT controller, and configurations that add two 12 V 100 Ah lithium batteries or a 2,000 W inverter.
