Portable power and solar generators
What Do the Numbers in 4Patriots Generator Names Actually Measure?
Summary
The number is continuous output in watts, not stored energy. The 1800 holds 768 Wh, the 2200X 2,240 Wh and the 2500X 1,612 Wh, so the 2200X stores more than the higher-numbered 2500X. All three list 523 W of AC input, and each bundle ships with a single solar panel.
The three models by the numbers
| Spec | 1800 | 2200X | 2500X |
|---|---|---|---|
| Continuous output | 1,800 W | 2,200 W | 2,500 W |
| Peak output | 3,048 W | 4,400 W | 5,000 W |
| Battery | 768 Wh | 2,240 Wh | 1,612 Wh |
| Rated cycles | 2,500 | 4,000+ | 3,500+ |
| Included panel | one 100 W | one 200 W | one 100 W |
| Generator weight | 40 lb | 57.5 lb | 65 lb |
| Price | $1,299.95 (refurbished) | $3,499.95 | $2,999.00 |
The 1800 is being retired, and only refurbished units remain, sold as final sale. The 2200X page says it will ship in late September from Georgia. For extra panels, 4Patriots says the 2200X takes up to six 200 W panels, three on each input, and the 2500X up to four 100 W panels.
Where the refrigerator hours come from
Each page gives runtimes for a 120 W refrigerator two ways: running continuously and cycling, with the compressor switching on and off.
| 120 W fridge | 1800 | 2200X | 2500X |
|---|---|---|---|
| Continuous | 6.4 hours | 19 hours | 13 hours |
| Cycling | 25.6 hours | 75 hours | 54 hours |
The continuous figures are close to battery capacity divided by 120 W (768 ÷ 120 = 6.4, 2,240 ÷ 120 ≈ 18.7, 1,612 ÷ 120 ≈ 13.4), with no inverter loss taken out. The cycling figures are about four times the continuous ones. The footnote calls the times approximate and says results vary with the appliance and conditions.
Numbers that disagree on the same page
The 2200X page carries a block that appears to belong to the 2500X (1,612 Wh, 2,500 W, 5,000 W peak, a 100 W panel), and its FAQ gives continuous output as 2,240 W. It also lists a 1.8-hour AC recharge on a 523 W input, and 523 W for 1.8 hours is about 940 Wh, well short of 2,240 Wh. The 2500X page still shows old and new figures side by side, as in "2,000 2,500 Watts."
Return terms differ too. The 2200X and 2500X pages offer a refund within 90 days, minus a return shipping, handling and restocking fee, while the solar generator collection page says every product has a one-year satisfaction guarantee.
