Who Still Sells Solar Shingles in 2026?

Tesla was reported in August 2026 to have stopped selling Solar Roof, and its Solar Roof web address now forwards to its solar panel page. GAF's Timberline Solar ES 2 is still on sale at 57 W per shingle, with about 30 shingles and 1.7 kW per 100-square-foot roofing square. DOE treats these products as building-integrated PV, which replaces roofing material, and contrasts them with conventional rooftop solar mounted on top of an existing roof.

Electrek, citing two people close to the program, reported that Tesla told installers it would no longer supply solar roof tiles. Canary Media, citing a 2023 Wood Mackenzie report, wrote that Tesla's solar roof did not crack 0.03% of the 2022 roofing market and made up just 0.17% of the residential solar capacity installed that year. Electrek cites a Wood Mackenzie estimate of about 3,000 U.S. installations over roughly seven years.

What 7.7 kW looks like with GAF shingles

GAF lists each shingle at 68 3/4 x 16 7/8 x 1 inches and 10.1 pounds, for roofs pitched 2:12 or steeper. Building the 2025 U.S. residential median of 7.7 kW, as reported by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, would take about 135 of the 57 W shingles covering roughly 4.5 squares, or about 450 square feet.

GAF says a Timberline Solar roof is often comparable in price to a new roof plus rack-mounted panels. Its certifications include UL 3741 for the BIPV system and UL 7103.
