Where Are REC Solar Panels Made, and Which Series Does REC Sell in the U.S.?
Summary
REC's U.S. site lists four series, Alpha Pure-RX, Alpha Pure-R, Alpha Pure 2 and Alpha Pro M, all built on heterojunction (HJT) technology. REC makes its panels at a facility in Singapore, and even the U.S. "Domestic Content" version of the Alpha Pure-RX datasheet gives the origin as "Made in Singapore."
The four series on the U.S. site
| Series | Power | Panel area | Max efficiency | Minimum power in year 25 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Pure-RX | 450 to 470 Wp | 22.4 ft² (2.08 m²) | 22.6% | 92% |
| Alpha Pure-R | 400 to 430 Wp | 20.8 ft² | 22.3% | 92% |
| Alpha Pure 2 | 400 to 430 Wp | 20.8 ft² | 22.2% | 92% |
| Alpha Pro M | 610 to 640 Wp | 30.6 ft² | 22.5% | 92% |
REC calls the Alpha Pure-RX its most powerful residential solar panel. U.S. distribution runs through REC Americas LLC of San Luis Obispo, California. Its manufacturer's certification statement for the IRS, dated August 30, 2024, says all of the listed panels are manufactured by REC Singapore Pte. Ltd. and distributed into the U.S. market by REC Americas.
What changes in the Domestic Content version
The Alpha Pure-RX also comes in a version whose product code ends in "-DC." Its electrical data, dimensions and temperature coefficients match the standard datasheet. The differences are an added IEC TS 63126 Level 1 certification and this banner: "Assembled with foreign and domestic components. These modules are compatible with AVLs indicating domestic content adder eligibility."
The origin line on that datasheet still reads "Made in Singapore."
Higher voltage, under 9 amps
The Alpha Pure-RX uses 88 half-cut bifacial heterojunction cells, and its voltage and current per panel look quite different from a 430 W Qcells module.
| Panel | Max power | Voltage at max power | Current at max power | Open-circuit voltage | Short-circuit current |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| REC Alpha Pure-RX 470 | 470 W | 55.4 V | 8.49 A | 65.7 V | 8.95 A |
| REC Alpha Pure-RX 450 | 450 W | 54.3 V | 8.29 A | 65.6 V | 8.81 A |
| Qcells Q.TRON BLK M-G2+ 430 | 430 W | 32.94 V | 13.05 A | 39.32 V | 13.74 A |
On its product page REC says the 9 A current makes the panel compatible with module-level power electronics (MLPE). We do not judge which equipment can be paired; that follows each manufacturer's specifications. The datasheet lists a maximum system voltage of 1,000 V and a maximum series fuse rating of 25 A.
