Does Adding a SolarEdge Home Battery Keep the Lights On in an Outage?
Summary
Not on its own. SolarEdge says backup requires a connection to the Home Hub Inverter (single phase) and the Home Backup Interface, and that backup applications are subject to local regulations. The Backup Interface is the part that separates the house from the grid when the power fails, after which the battery and panels carry either the whole home or selected circuits.
What each of the three parts does
The Home Battery 400V stores 9.7 kWh per unit, stacks up to three per inverter, and is listed at 5 kW continuous and 7.5 kW peak with 94.5% round-trip efficiency. Three units add up to 29.1 kWh.
The Home Hub Inverter is the single-phase inverter that ties the panels and batteries together, and it accepts up to 200% DC oversizing.
The Home Backup Interface sits on the service side. Its datasheet (DS-000103-NAM, dated November 24, 2025) gives these ratings:

It is suitable for use as service equipment. A footnote says a 63 A breaker supports one inverter of up to 11.4 kW and a 40 A breaker one inverter of up to 7.6 kW.
Setups without outage backup
The battery page lists three ways to use it: storage only (rate saver), partial home backup and whole home backup. Since backup requires the Backup Interface, a storage-only system does not feed the house during an outage. The same line applies when a home that already has SolarEdge solar adds a battery later.
