How Much Do Solar Batteries for a Home Cost in 2026, by Size and by Brand?
Summary
About $1,159 per kWh installed, before incentives, on EnergySage's marketplace data updated August 26, 2026: roughly $5,800 for 5 kWh, $11,600 for 10 kWh, $15,650 for the 13.5 kWh that Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory reports as the median home battery, and $31,300 for 27 kWh. By brand, Tesla averaged $967 per kWh ($13,055 for 13.5 kWh), FranklinWH $1,232 ($18,480 for 15 kWh) and Enphase $1,429 ($14,290 for 10 kWh). Equipment is 50 to 60% of the installed price; an EG4 inverter-and-battery bundle from Signature Solar runs $286 to $585 per kWh before anyone installs it. The federal 25D credit no longer applies to property placed in service after December 31, 2025.
Installed price by size
| Size | At $1,159 per kWh | What it corresponds to |
|---|---|---|
| 5 kWh | about $5,800 | one Enphase IQ Battery 5P |
| 10 kWh | about $11,600 | two IQ 5P |
| 13.5 kWh | about $15,650 | one Tesla Powerwall 3; the 2025 median |
| 15 kWh | about $17,400 | one FranklinWH aPower 2 |
| 27 kWh | about $31,300 | two Powerwall 3 |
The per-kWh figure is the national average; EnergySage's state table puts California at $1,079 and Texas at $1,059. Multiplying a national average by a size is a starting point, not a quote: the brand table below shows the spread.
Installed price by brand, first half of 2026
| Brand | Per kWh | Quoted capacity | Installed price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tesla | $967 | 13.5 kWh | $13,055 |
| FranklinWH | $1,232 | 15 kWh | $18,480 |
| Enphase | $1,429 | 10 kWh | $14,290 |
EnergySage also gives about $34,000 for whole-home backup, which adds the panel work and larger systems that let the battery carry everything.
Equipment only
Signature Solar's home backup bundles, read October 4, 2026, pair an EG4 inverter with WallMount batteries at $286 per kWh (18kPV with 28.6 kWh, $8,191.98) to $585 per kWh (18kPV with 14.3 kWh, $8,369.98). The difference between that and the installed figures is labor, permits, interconnection, racking and the rest, which is consistent with EnergySage's 50 to 60% equipment share. Our bundle guide lists all eleven.
The incentive that is gone
IRS guidance confirms the residential clean energy credit does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025. The figures above are therefore the figures; there is no 30% to subtract for a 2026 installation. State and utility programs are separate and local.
What else the data says
LBNL's 2026 update reports a 13.5 kWh median storage size in 2025, a battery attached to 37% of home solar installs (up from 25% in 2024), and a cash-purchase premium of about $2.1 per watt for solar plus storage over solar alone, about $16,170 on the 7.7 kW median system. Our installed-cost guide goes further into that report; this one is the price table.
