How Much Does Base Power Cost? Installation Fee, Monthly Fee, Electricity Rate and What Happens If You Leave
Summary
In Base Power's Texas example for the Oncor service area: a $695 installation fee, $19 a month ($19 or $29 depending on plan), and electricity from Base at an all-in 13.9 cents per kWh (7.7 cents plus delivery), under an energy contract of typically three years and a battery agreement of 12 years with a $500 de-install fee for leaving early. In Illinois' ComEd area the installation fee is $95 for the first 2,000 homes (down from $695), there is no monthly fee, and energy is priced 25 to 27% below ComEd's Price to Compare for 24 months. You never buy the battery; Base owns it for the whole agreement.

Figures are from Base's pricing and Illinois pages as read for our earlier guide, with Illinois prices as of June 15, 2026; our earlier guide goes through the specifications of the Base Core battery and what the agreement covers.
What you are paying for
Not a battery; a service. The fees buy an installed battery that backs up the house, and the electricity contract is how Base earns on it. That is why the comparison is not against a $13,055 installed Powerwall but against your current electricity rate plus the value you put on backup. At 13.9 cents all-in, a Texas home using 1,000 kWh a month pays $139 for energy plus $19 membership; whether that beats the alternative depends on the rate you have now.
Against buying a battery
EnergySage's installed average is about $1,159 per kWh, $13,055 for a 13.5 kWh Tesla and $15,650 at the national figure, paid once and owned. Base's route is $695 up front and ongoing fees, owned by Base, with a 12-year term. Over 12 years at $19 a month the membership alone is $2,736 in Texas, before any difference in electricity price; the Illinois plan has no membership fee, which is the main reason its numbers look different.
The questions the pages leave open
What happens to the rate after the three-year (Texas) or 24-month (Illinois) energy term, and what the battery agreement's terms are after the energy contract ends. Both are in the contract rather than on the pricing page.
