Which Ring Cameras Does Each Ring Solar Panel Plug Into?

Summary

Ring's compatibility list assigns its barrel-plug Solar Panel (2.4W) to one group of cameras and its USB-C Solar Panel and Small Solar Panel to another. Adapters exist in both directions for mismatched plugs, and Ring labels the USB-C to barrel adapter for compatible Ring USB-C panels and barrel-plug cameras only. No Ring panel runs a camera that has no battery inside it.

The two adapters are the USB-C to Barrel Plug Adapter, for a USB-C panel on a barrel-plug camera, and the Barrel Plug to USB-C Adapter for the reverse. Further down the same page, the mount listings rate the Small Solar Panel at 1.9 W and the Solar Panel 2nd Gen at 4 W.

The sunlight Ring asks for

Ring's installation guide calls for at least four to six hours of direct sun a day, a south-facing panel in the Northern Hemisphere, and a 45-degree angle toward the sun. The panel is there to keep the battery going longer. Even in full sun the battery stops at around 80%, which Ring says is to extend its life.

Third-party panels and a panel with its own battery

Wasserstein's Ring panel lists the Spotlight Cam 2K (2nd Gen), Plus and Pro Battery, the Outdoor Cam 2K (2nd Gen) and Plus Battery, and the Stick Up Cam and Pro Battery. It comes with a 4 m cable ending in a DC connector plus a USB-C adapter. The listing gives no wattage, and a single panel was $30.99 on September 23.

Moultrie, which makes trail cameras, sells the 3.4W Solar Power Pack II: a panel with a 24.12 Wh battery (7.4 V, 3,350 mAh) built in. It connects straight to EDGE Series cameras or to Moultrie's POWER MAG packs, and a full charge takes 1 hour 45 minutes over USB-C or 10 hours 45 minutes from the sun. It lists at $69.99 and was out of stock on September 23.
