Who Do You Call When a SunPower System Installed Before September 30, 2024 Breaks Down?

Summary

Not today's SunPower. SunPower Inc., formerly Complete Solaria, says its purchase of assets, which closed on September 30, 2024, did not include any interest in customer leases or PPAs, or in any solar systems, batteries or other equipment installed before that date. Its site sends older customers to different contacts depending on how they paid and which equipment failed.

For Blue Raven Solar and Complete Solar customers, whatever the install date, the warranties in the installation agreement remain valid.

Panels with the SunPower name

Maxeon says SunPower Corporation was the warranty holder for systems and panels it sold. Maxeon provides only limited warranty coverage for legacy SunPower panels installed before August 5, 2024 and self-registered with Maxeon by December 31, 2024. If that deadline was missed, it says the installer may still be able to register the warranty. Microinverters on AC panels are not covered by Maxeon; those installed in 2019 or later are likely Enphase units, according to its FAQ.

SunPower Inc. guarantees installation quality, including waterproof roof penetrations and design issues, for ten years, and offers hassle-free service for two years after installation. Its panels and microinverters carry manufacturer warranties of up to 25 years. For a manufacturer-related problem in the first two years, SunPower handles the claim; after that it helps, but the owner pays any manufacturer claim fees. Its Monolith 470 panel is built by REC.
