How Do You Tell Which Solar Panels a Microinverter Can Work With?

Summary

Enphase's IQ8 data sheets set module compatibility by two electrical limits, maximum input DC voltage and maximum module Isc, and the IQ8MC, IQ8AC, and IQ8HC all list 60 V and 20 A. The "commonly used module pairings" wattage is a guide, and the sheets note there is no enforced DC/AC ratio. SolarPanelX does not rule on pairings; Enphase's compatibility calculator and specifications do.

The IQ8MC sheet is the July 2026 revision; the IQ8AC and IQ8HC sheets are August 2025. The pairing ranges overlap, but the bottom of the MPPT window moves from model to model.

Branch circuits on a 24-panel roof

Microinverters are grouped on the AC side into branch circuits. Per the data sheets, a 20 A branch at 240 V takes up to 12 IQ8MC units or 10 IQ8HC units. A 24-panel roof therefore needs two branches with IQ8MC and three with IQ8HC. Enphase adds that the limits may vary with local requirements.

Monitoring runs through a gateway

The components talk to each other over power line communication, and the IQ Gateway handles energy management and internet connectivity. Enphase's product page says IQ8 microinverters integrate with the IQ Battery, the IQ Gateway, and the Enphase App for monitoring and analysis. The limited warranty runs up to 25 years.
